Made in Japan

They did it after Japanese gamers stopped buying games. Instead of hardware AND software sales in Japan going up, they went down by nearly 50% (1997-2005) . What was the mistake that Japanese games companies made,

People in Korea often talk in lines of Eastern and Western Culture. Maybe some people are just stupid, but last i learnt about in University, we were past talking about cultures, and were delving into sub cultures. Sub cultures are those cunts that pierce their bodies and call themselves punks, or those people who cant help but fuck people from the same gender but also happen to like R&B music... they form a subculture calling themselves the pierced marvin gays.

Gaming is a little stagnant in subculture. Sterotypical themes pervade the charts, along with bad voice acting and uninnovative gameplay. There are exceptions, and games like Shadow of the Colossus, Indigo Prophecy and God of War give us hope, because theyre well balanced games that dont alienate intelligtent people. The small amount of innovation is nothing compared to the innovation that we saw in the late 80's early 90's though from within the arcades.

1985 - Ghosts and Goblins
1986 - Double Dragon
1989 - Strider, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
1990 - Moonwalker
1991 - Street Fighter 2
1992 - Mortal Kombat
1993 - Lethal Enforcers, NBA Jam

Its difficult to think of popular games that are using ideas from these games Today, from what i can see above i think of NBA Street, thats about it. the most popular console games of Today are almost entirely First Person Shooters, RPGs and sports sims, which was never in the arcades. Wheres the harmony? I blame the game industry. In the 90's the Japanese arcade industry recycled content until the public stopped playing (until rhythm games that is). To use an example, Light gun games also offered little variety after 1997. besides the original Time Crisis, Terminator 2, The Lost World, and the original House of the Dead.

So the Japanese devs moved onto console gaming, however that industry in Japan is shrinking. Which is why with regards to the bigger consoles they are now focusing on overseas markets. Japanese game makers like Capcom have become more Americanized for bigger consoles. We are definitely in a recession of good content with regards to the console industry. I might buy a DS just to see whats going on there. When I watch this video of the Angry Videogame nerd reviewing Collecovision CRAPWARE i think of most of Todays big console games. I watch games like Uncharted 2 and i see Tomb Raider, i look at Tekken 6 and i see Tekken 2... the changes being made are not where it counts most... and Resident Evil 4 is a perfect example (a game hailed by the gaming media as masterful).

If at the time of the PS2 launch there was a convergence of the arcade industry, home console gaming, and PC gaming through public gaming rooms, I dont think we would be in this situation.
